Sukhoi SU-27B Step by step

THE KIT

I remember I bought this kit for 2005. For reasons of space, or because I had many other things going on, I've been letting this kit by "the end". But now I had the opportunity to work on it.

At first I thought I would not spend much time with the assembly. I thought in an “out of box” assembly and dedicating time to do a good of camouflage job, but I saw the detailed "aftermarket" set from Zactomodels and Aires, and I could not resist adding a little more detail and make some scratch detail apart from a correction of panels and antennaes..

The kit is well detailed, with several pieces in photoetched metal and landing gear in both white metal and plastic.

I'll show you here a short step by step construction process. I hope all of you like it and enjoy with it as I've done. Your comments are welcome!

COCKPIT

I discarded Trumpeter's one and added the Aires cockpit detail set, reference 2026 Su-27 Flanker B Cockpit Set. You have to look at the instructions very well and as always, make a good dry fit all of the time. The "bathtub" was not a trouble fitting piece, but I had to carefully remove the sides of the half superior fuselage. There were fitting troubles with the rear of the cockpit frame, but I solved it with Evergreen strips.

The frame of the canopy did not fit so well, but I'll talk about it later.

I firstly airbrushed resin pieces with Mr. Resin Primer, and later a flat black base to get volumes. Then I painted the tub with Mr Color 117 RLM76 Light Blue base, 10% lightened with Mr Bright White Color 1.

I painted the details of instruments and other details and applied a flat black wash.

I masked instrument front panel with Mr. Masking Sol R Gunze Sangyo and painted the details as in the previous process. .
